James 4



 1. From whence <4159-pothen-> [come] wars <4171-polemos-> and 
fightings <3163-mache-> among <1722-en-> you? [come they] not 
hence <1782-enteuthen->, [even] of your <5216-humon-> lusts 
<2237-hedone-> that war <4754-strateuomai-> in your <5216-humon-
> members <3196-melos->?



 2 Ye lust <1937-epithumeo->, and have <2192-echo-> not: ye kill 
<5407-phoneuo->, and desire <2206-zeloo-> to have <2192-echo->, 
and cannot <1410-dunamai-> obtain <2013-epitugchano->: ye fight 
<3164-machomai-> and war <4170-polemeo->, yet <1161-de-> ye have 
<2192-echo-> not, because <1223-dia-> ye ask <0154-aiteo-> not.



 3 Ye ask <0154-aiteo->, and receive <2983-lambano-> not, 
because <1360-dioti-> ye ask <0154-aiteo-> amiss <2560-kakos->, 
that ye may consume <1159-dapanao-> [it] upon your <5216-humon-> 
lusts <2237-hedone->.



 4 Ye adulterers <3432-moichos-> and adulteresses <3428-
moichalis->, know <1492-eido-> ye not that the friendship <5373-
philia-> of the world <2889-kosmos-> is enmity <2189-echthra-> 
with God <2316-theos->? whosoever <0302-an-> therefore <3767-oun-
> will <1014-boo-lom-ahee-> be a friend <5384-philos-> of the 
world <2889-kosmos-> is the enemy <2190-echthros-> of God <2316-
theos->.



 5 Do ye think <1380-dokeo-> that the scripture <1124-graphe-> 
saith <3004-lego-> in vain <2761-kenos->, The spirit <4151-
pneuma-> that dwelleth <2730-katoikeo-> in us lusteth <1971-
epipotheo-> to envy <5355-phthonos->?



 6 But he giveth <1325-didomi-> more <3187-meizon-> grace <5485-
charis->. Wherefore <1352-dio-> he saith <3004-lego->, God <2316-
theos-> resisteth <0498-antitassomai-> the proud <5244-
huperephanos->, but giveth <1325-didomi-> grace <5485-charis-> 
unto the humble <5011-tapeinos->.



 7 Submit <5293-hupotasso-> yourselves therefore <3767-oun-> to 
God <2316-theos->. Resist <0436-anthistemi-> the devil <1228-
diabolos->, and he will flee <5343-pheugo-> from you.



 8 Draw nigh <1448-eggizo-> to God <2316-theos->, and he will 
draw nigh <1448-eggizo-> to you. Cleanse <2511-katharizo-> 
[your] hands <5495-cheir->, [ye] sinners <0268-hamartolos->; and 
purify <0048-hagnizo-> [your] hearts <2588-kardia->, [ye] double 
<1374-dipsuchos-> minded <1374-dipsuchos->.



 9 Be afflicted <5003-talaiporeo->, and mourn <3996-pentheo->, 
and weep <2799-klaio->: let your <5216-humon-> laughter <1071-
gelos-> be turned <3344-metastrepho-> to mourning <3997-penthos-
>, and [your <3588-ho->] joy <5479-chara-> to heaviness <2726-
katepheia->.



 10 Humble <5013-tapeinoo-> yourselves in the sight <1799-
enopion-> of the Lord <2962-kurios->, and he shall lift <5312-
hupsoo-> you up.



 11. Speak <2635-katalaleo-> not evil <2635-katalaleo-> one 
<0240-allelon-> of another <0240-allelon->, brethren <0080-
adephos->. He that speaketh <2635-katalaleo-> evil <2635-
katalaleo-> of [his] brother <0080-adephos->, and judgeth <2919-
krino-> his brother <0080-adephos->, speaketh <2635-katalaleo-> 
evil <2635-katalaleo-> of the law <3551-nomos->, and judgeth 
<2919-krino-> the law <3551-nomos->: but if <1487-ei-> thou 
judge <2919-krino-> the law <3551-nomos->, thou art <1488-ei-> 
not a doer <4163-poietes-> of the law <3551-nomos->, but a judge 
<2923-krites->.



 12 There is one <1520-heis-> lawgiver <3550-nomothetes->, who 
<3588-ho-> is able <1410-dunamai-> to save <4982-sozo-> and to 
destroy <0622-apollumi->: who <5101-tis-> art <1488-ei-> thou 
that judgest <2919-krino-> another <2087-heteros->?



 13 Go <0033-age-> to now <3568-nun->, ye that say <3004-lego->, 
To day <4594-semeron-> or <2228-e-> to morrow <0839-aurion-> we 
will go <4198-poreuomai-> into <1519-eis-> such <3592-hode-> a 
city <4172-polis->, and continue <4160-poieo-> there <1563-ekei-
> a year <1763-eniautos->, and buy <1710-emporeuomai-> and sell 
<1710-emporeuomai->, and get gain <2770-kerdaino->:



 14 Whereas <3748-hostis-> ye know <1987-epistamai-> not what 
<3588-ho-> [shall be] on the morrow <0839-aurion->. For what 
<4169-poios-> [is] your <5216-humon-> life <2222-zoe->? It is 
even <1063-gar-> a vapour <0822-atmis->, that appeareth <5316-
phaino-> for a little <3641-oligos-> time, and then <1899-epeita-
> vanisheth <0853-aphanizo-> away.



 15 For that ye [ought] to say <3004-lego->, If <1437-ean-> the 
Lord <2962-kurios-> will <2309-thelo->, we shall live <2198-zao-
>, and do <4160-poieo-> this <5124-touto->, or <2228-e-> that.



 16 But now <3568-nun-> ye rejoice <2744-kauchaomai-> in your 
<5216-humon-> boastings <0212-alazoneia->: all <3956-pas-> such 
<5108-toioutos-> rejoicing <2746-kauchesis-> is evil <4190-
poneros->.



 17 Therefore <3767-oun-> to him that knoweth <1492-eido-> to do 
<4160-poieo-> good <2570-kalos->, and doeth <4160-poieo-> [it] 
not, to him it is sin <0266-hamartia->.
